Graduate Grammar

 

Prerequisites: Placement test

 

Credit:  One credit hour

 

Catalog Description: This course is designed for graduate-level limited English proficient students to incorporate form, meaning, and usage of grammar.

 

Mission:  The mission of the ESL program is to help students with limited English proficiency to acquire English language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening through computer technology, along with sufficient knowledge of American culture in order for them to succeed in other academic courses.

 

Purpose:  The purpose of this course is to incorporate intermediate level grammar into the academic skills of writing, reading, listening, and speaking.

 

Objectives:  This course is designed so that the student will learn:

 

1.  To recognize and incorporate the form, meaning, and usage of verbs.

2.  To recognize and incorporate the form, meaning, and usage of word groupings.

3.  To recognize and incorporate the form, meaning, and usage of nouns.

4.  To recognize and incorporate the form, meaning, and usage of adjectives and adverbs.

 

Assessment and General Assignments:  Assignments include textbook  exercises, class work, homework, five quizzes, two tests, and  a final exam.

 

Evaluation and Grading:  The final grade will be based upon the student's attendance, class work, homework, active participation, quizzes, tests, and the final examination.  The final examination will be collected and kept on record.
