Graduate Writing II

 

Prerequisites: ESP 412 or placement test

 

Credit:  One credit hour

 

Catalog Description: This course is designed for continuation of ESP 412, emphasizing more advanced writing appropriate for graduate level work.

 

Mission:  The mission of the ESL program is to help students with limited English proficiency to acquire English language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening through computer technology, along with sufficient knowledge of American culture in order for them to succeed in other academic courses.

 

Purpose:  The purpose of this course is to refine the student's ability to organize and produce multiple paragraph compositions relating to academic areas at the intermediate level.

 

Objectives:  This course is designed so that the student will learn:

1.  To understand and produce a well-organized composition.

2.  To plan and produce a wide range of paragraph types and compositions.

 

Assessment and General Assignments:  Assignments include textbook activities, five multiple-paragraph compositions, a business letter, and exercises to improve the writing process (from the first draft to the final paper).  One student-generated composition will be collected and kept on record.

 

Evaluation and Grading:  The final grade will be determined by the student's attendance, active participation, homework, and successful production of five compositions and one business letter.
