Introduction
to the German Language
Prerequisites: None
Credit: One (1) credit hour

Description: Focuses on the need
for the student to experience some knowledge of the German language and be able
to respond to everyday situations.
Mission: The mission of the Area of Culture and
Languages is two-fold: It provides students with an understanding of selected
foreign cultures, in order to enhance awareness of multicultural enrichment; it
also provides practical comprehension of selected foreign languages.
Purpose: The Germanic way of life has left its
imprint on many parts of the United States.
This course will offer the student an introduction to the German
language and responses to every day situation.
Objectives: Upon successful completion of this
course the student will be able to:
1.
Demonstrate an appreciation for Germany and other Germanic
countries, including language and language usage.
2.
Recognize the language spoken in Germanic countries, i.e., the
sounds, relationship to world languages, importance, etc.
3.
Demonstrate a sensibility to and tolerance and acceptance of
another peoples life-style and value systems.
4.
Properly utilize and write short German answers to German
speaking people's question.
Assessments and
General Assignments: Assignments
include textbook readings and listening to the tapes. There is a short quiz after each chapter in the book.
Evaluation and
Grading: The final grade will be
determined by: student's passing of each quiz.
